Actor Richard returns home from London to visit his dad Ken, a year on from the passing of his mum Jean. But on arriving, he realises his dad may need more help than he'd originally thought.

Richard decides the time has come to clear Ken's house of all his junk – or as Ken calls it, 'his memories'. As Ken's suspicions over Richard's true motives grow, the arrival of Mr Oddjob, local handyman and Richard's former school nemesis, complicates matters further.

Concerned that Ken is spending too much time on his own, Richard offers to take him to the local golf club, unaware that he’s about to play a much bigger part in integrating his dad back into the community than he'd originally intended.

Richard battles medical receptionists – and a stubborn Ken – in order to secure Ken a doctor’s appointment on the same day that he is asked to impart his acting wisdom to the local am-dram group.

Richard secures an audition and embarks on a journey to track down the elusive Brian – Ken’s oldest friend, with whom he lost touch with years ago – in order to invite him to Ken’s surprise 75th birthday party.

Richard struggles with finding the right time to tell Ken his big news as the two of them spend the day touring Forres in search of the ideal spot to scatter Jean’s ashes.

After his dream Norway job doesn’t go quite to plan, Richard just wants to hide away from the world. Sadly for him, Ken has other ideas – mainly forcing him to join the protest group fighting to save the local allotments.

A depressed Richard searches for a real job and embarks on a fitness journey as his 40th birthday looms. Meanwhile, Ken prepares for his first first date in almost 60 years.

With Ken needing to resit his driving exam in order to win back his license, Richard offers to take him out on a mock test, not realising just how rusty his dad has become behind the wheel.

Ken forces Richard to accompany him to Aviemore so that he can help him navigate the QR code scanner at the train station ticket barrier. However, a mix-up on the platform turns what should be a simple day trip into an almighty fiasco.

Ken is looking forward to having Beth over for dinner, but when Emily and Tim also turn up, an unexpected party gets under way. As the night progresses, secrets threaten to spill out.

The diggers move in at the allotments, forcing the protest group to take extreme action. With time running out for Richard, he decides to lay it all on the line for Emily - but will it prove enough?
